Watch your winter ventilation

As winter approaches there is the usual transition period of mixed cold and warm weather. Farm staff can often be slow to respond to these fluctuations in pig buildings which are not completely temperature controlled, says Paul Thompson, veterinary consultant to pig-breeding company, ACMC.
Although extra work is involved in constantly adjusting, gale-breakers, lids, etc, one of the biggest triggers of respiratory and wasting disease is draughts leading to chilling.

So any effort to maintain pigs at the correct temperature should pay dividends, he points out.
