Mr. Broumpton, East Yorkshire:
"It's all about numbers sold in the pig industry now, as that's where you can make more return from your unit. Since going onto ACMC stock we are producing and selling more pigs than we have done for years. The pigs go to Cranswick and average 79 dead weight out of straw yards averaging 10.8 P2 and that's great, but the main factor is we have more to sell now than we have had."
Dr. Fiona Roberts of Integra:
"One of the best monogastric businesses I have ever audited."
Peter Rollings, Feeds Director BOCM PAULS:
"BOCM PAULS are proud to be the major pig feed supplier to ACMC. Our trading relationship is defined by a desire to achieve the highest standards animal performance from consistent bio secure pig feeds."
Colin Piercy of West Moor Farm, Easingwold, a 300 sow breeder finisher producer says of AC1 Parent Female:
"All the animals have settled in well, perform as expected under an outdoor system and they have a temperament second to none, showing no aggression".
John Gray, South East:
John restocked in the spring of 2002 with 250 AC1 Gilts from ACMC. The method used to establish the new herd was to replace all sows from the old herd at weaning with the new incoming AC1 Gilts. The new herd was established over a six month period. Since the completion of the restock John has seen a considerable rise in production and profitability of the farm. The breeding unit produces 30kgs pigs which John then moves to his liquid fed finishing unit. John says "The breeding results have been impressive with the farm currently running at 25.53 pigs sold / transferred per sow per year. My manager and me have been particularly pleased with the all round mothering ability of the AC1 parent female. Pigs are grown up to nearly 80kg dead weight and all fed add lib on liquid feed in pen groups of 50. I am very pleased with the cost per kg gain they are achieving. The pigs both grow and grade very well with an average P2 of 10.4mm at our slaughter weight. I sell my pigs on to a local processor who is pleased withthe carcase quality. They generally experience over 92% Q grade with a very high meat content. All this is over 24 pigs per sow per year being sold."
Just a quick look at some of this weeks production figures shows how well things are going with 13 sows (now parity 3 and 4) farrowed producing 175 piglets born alive, thus averaging 13.46 per sow.
J Walton:
120 sow unit has seen an improvement of 8% in farrowing since moving on to ACMC AI and is using our Meidam GP sows and has an average 13.4 born alive from his home bred AC1's.
Kevin Collinson, Nort :
Farms 120 sows is very pleased with the performance of the AC1 gilts but his real compliments concern "how docile they are to work with through the system, and with pigs into Malton at 78kgs dead weight with an average P2 of 10.8" and he goes on to say "he's happy with that".
Tim Francis, South East:
Tim runs about 260 indoor sows producing 40 kg pigs which are sold to a local finisher at 11 weeks of age."I trialled 30 AC1 gilts about 18 months ago and the result was one of encouragement. The main area I was looking to improve was the numbers born alive, not only did the AC1 give this increased litter size but I also found the mothers to be so good natured and easy to work with. I have now purchased 260 AC1 gilts in the last 18 months, completely turning my herd over to ACMC stock. I have been very pleased with his decision to change to the AC1 female due to the numbers produced and the excellent mothering and rearing ability. So now I simply have a lot more pigs in the system. The ultimate for me was two separate batch groups of females, which between them did not loose a piglet, giving me a first of 0% mortality from 20 females with the piglets being weaned off at 27 days old. Since changing over to
ACMC stock I have now seen a reduction in pre-weaning mortality and an increase in numbers reared. The weaners are excellent in both growth and quality". Tim also goes onto say "He has consistently achieved over 12 born alive from the AC1 gilt and has seen the parity two female produce in excess of 13 born alive which he is very impressed with."
John, Barbara and Stephen Knowles, Boroughbridge:
With all their breeding stock changed over to ACMC AC1’s over the last 2 years they regularly wean in excess of 10.8 pigs litter on their 220 sow unit. John comments "The stock is very prolific as well as very good at milking the large numbers born making weaning performance better than they have had for years. The grading is still as good as it has always been with all the pigs going to Wood head’s at heavy weights. The difference is there’s just more of them to sell."
Performance figures: Farrowing rate 93.9 %; Born alive average 12.4 / litter (29.38 pigs born alive / year); Weaned pigs / litter 10.8 (with the index at 2.37 this equates to 25.59 pigs weaned / sow / year).
K and D, from the North:
Producing an average of 10.6 to 10.8 weaned per sow and their father commented recently "that in 30 years of pig keeping he has never seen such prolific and docile females and it has turned the unit round."
JS, from Suffolk:
"Never seen so many pigs on the farm for the amount of sows they are running."
AH, South East:
"Never had so many piglets born or reared, over 10.5 reared per gilt/sow."
JW, South East:
"Born Alive and mothering second to none with a current average Born over 12."
MD, South East:
"Born Alive are running at nearly 13 pigs per litter."
MW, South East:
"Weaner weights from AI trial piglets showed ACMC AI progeny nearly three weeks ahead of competition at the 35 kg weighing."
MD, South East:
"The ACMC stock seem to adapt to his outdoor system extremely well as they are such good mothers with good numbers.
